No Equipment Required for this Workout!

When people look at you, which of the following two things would you prefer they think? “That looks like a CAN’T” or “That looks like a CAN”? Now, I know there are plenty of people out there who would argue that it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks and I would agree…as long as the person not doing the caring is also truly happy with who they are on all levels. Personally, I believe that those who are not truly happy with themselves belong to the CAN’T camp.

What do I mean by CAN’T camp? What I am referring to is more a state of mind than a state of being. To belong to the CAN’T camp simply means that you tend to look at all the reasons why the things you have not yet accomplished can’t be done. I would guess that most people who tend to default to that sort of mindset do not live the most fulfilling lives. I would also argue that many people conflicted with the CAN’T condition were forged over time by way of misguidance and/or a lack of understanding about just how powerful the mind can be.

So, what about those CANS? Well, as you probably guessed, those who can, do! Again, it is simply a mindset that separates the CANS from their counterparts; however, this is a mindset that is far more likely to lead to success and happiness throughout a lifetime. For the CANS, life is about problem solving and progression. Personally, I tend to agree with the notion that progression is one of the very few things that make human beings truly happy!

Of course, I am aware of the fact that life is challenging and complicated. What determines how we get through is the amount of effort we are willing to put into preparing for the obstacles that we will inevitably face. How much are we willing to do in order to prepare our minds and our bodies? How much are we willing to sacrifice in order to provide ourselves with the greatest chance for success? It takes EFFORT.

Physical exercise, in my humble opinion, is one of the most important and most effective tools one can use prepare not only the body, but also the mind, for adversity. The practice of voluntary discomfort is essential for developing mental fortitude and intrinsic empowerment. Think about it.. when you push the limits of your physical capabilities far enough it creates a need for an inner voice. This inner voice becomes what you can rely upon to urge you forward against the grain when everything else is screaming stop. The more you force that inner voice to speak, the stronger that inner voice becomes and eventually, that inner voice talks to you constantly and is the first one to show up at your side when life becomes challenging. I truly believe in this idea and I think this explains, in part, why those who are inactive, are often less happy than their physically active peers. Not only does exercise have a tremendous impact at a chemical level, it teaches us to push through a challenge or find a way around it instead of allowing it to stop us dead in our tracks.

So, for anyone out there reading this, regardless of whether you are a CAN or a CAN’T, just remember that life is going to come at you quick and it is up to you to make sure that you are prepared. With that in mind, if you need a little ammunition, here is a great workout that you can perform with no equipment and very little space. Put these moves together in a time-based circuit or perform them for reps and make sure you don’t let the inner voice get too quiet.
